This could possibly be from the Bunnahabhain distillery, but please don’t quote us on that 🙂 as it could also be Caol Ila as Port Askaig is the gateway and port to the North of the island that is also home to the two distilleries mentioned above. Port Askaig 45 Year old is a bottling from 5 refill Sherry butts distilled in 1968 Producer’s Tasting Note: Nose: Even before you taste this, your senses are filled with full, thick, ripe fruit and heavy, sweet, sticky nectar. A touch of menthol gives a clue to the long ageing of this whisky. Palate: Rich Navel oranges and fleshy mango sit on a thick and warming palate, with flavours reminiscent of green tea, mint leaves and tropical fruit. The flavours are incredibly well balanced with elegance and poise. Finish: Clean and long with carefully balanced minerality. Very rare indeed to find a single Islay malt at such a ripe old age and half the fun will be trying to guess which distillery it comes from!
